The Scorpion NT8

(New Technology 8V)

This is my new technology mainstream lamp. Its a solid, reliable and powerful lamp with many features.

The NT series have common features in that they are my own design and construction electronics providing consistent output of intermediate brightness levels regardless of battery charge state, and an average of 94% efficiency giving longer burn times.

A further issue with some lamps is tendency to flicker at low outputs, this driver is based on a DC-DC converter and is flicker free.

This lamp utilises the well proven IP68 and mudproof pushbutton of the Scorpion "X", but the layout is changed. The button is now moved the side providing a greater heat sink area on the rear. It also has a large compound reflector. (See Photos) The beam pattern is very good with a concentrated centre spot, a wider beam area, then overall illumination. It has a very good, chunky solid feel to it.

Using this underground is impressive. Very bright but without the loss of the feel of being underground. It does not illuminate the cave or mine like Tesco.

Very simple to use, 1,2,3,4, that's it. No long presses, longs and shorts, flashes, strobes or signals to Mars. Its on to standard mode, then high, then Max, then off again, that's it. I find this very refreshing in this day and age. Connecting the two cell battery gives the green gallium nitride power/pilot, this will give way to a flashing red LED when the battery is run down.

Standard mode is a consistent 250 mA output giving about 250 lumens @25C running at an average of 90% efficiency. Duration test of the 2 cell battery pack gave about 15 hours to flashing red light then a slow death - sort off.
